The Russian developer and manufacturer of modern urban electric transport PK Transport Systems (PK TS) has started the production of a two-section electric bus of extra large capacity. The body of the new electric bus was welded and painted at the Engels Electric Transport Plant - PK TS's own production site in the Saratov Region. Today, the primary assembly of the future unique vehicle is being carried out at the Tver Mechanical Plant for Electric Transport (part of the PK TS).
The 6245 articulated two-section electric bus with night charging will have a high operating speed, without the need to recharge during the day. This is a key competitive advantage over ultra-fast charging electric buses, which spend several minutes replenishing energy in batteries at final stops after passing the route. To operate the new car, it will be necessary to equip the electric bus fleet with a charging station, and to change the infrastructure to supply terminal stations with charging stations will no longer be required.
“No one has ever produced such vehicles in Russia,” comments Feliks Vinokur, President of PK Transport Systems. - We are no stranger to offering the market innovative products, and despite the difficulties arising from the coronavirus pandemic, we are not deviating from our chosen development strategy. Today, electric transport is becoming increasingly preferred in the world: new tram systems are being built, buses are being replaced by electric buses. Russia is no exception. We want to introduce environmentally friendly transportation for busy city routes. I am sure that the public and the expert community will appreciate our brainchild."
The 6245 articulated two-section electric bus with overnight charging will be equipped with an electric climate system, while many other electric buses use diesel heaters. A liquid cooling system will help to increase passenger capacity by reducing the weight of the car. A new technology - an electro-portal bridge - will help to increase the space in the salon. Roof-mounted traction batteries will be equipped with an electric thermostat system and will provide a range of 200 to 250 kilometers. The batteries will be charged at night for 4-6 hours. The salon can accommodate up to 150 people. For their convenience, there will be USB-connectors, modern multimedia systems and advanced climate control systems. To reduce the fire load, the interior will be made of aluminum alloys. Completely low floor and wide doorways will provide a high speed of passenger exchange at stopping points, which will increase the efficiency of the vehicle.
In 2017, PK Transport Systems produced its first Pioneer electric bus, the main feature of which was the unique mobile battery system (MAS) housed in a special trailer. Thanks to the MAS, the electric bus is able to carry out urban and inter-municipal transportation. The idea of placing battery systems in trailers is being actively tested in Europe today.
